Summergate’s producers top Wine Spectator’s Top 100 List 2015

Each year, Wine Spectator editors survey the wines reviewed over the previous 12 months and select their Top 100, based on quality, value, availability and excitement. This annual list honors successful wineries, regions and vintages around the world, and this year, with seven of Summergate’s wineries making the list!

Il Poggione Brunello di Montalcino 2010:

Rich, with excellent density, ripe cherry and plum fruit, and a well-integrated structure. Licorice, earth and tobacco notes add depth while this cruises to a long, tobacco- and  mineral-tinged finish. Shows balance and grip. Best from 2018 through 2033. 18,000 cases made. —BS 




Abadia Retuerta Vi?o de la Tierra de Castilla y León Sardon de Duero Selección Especial 2011:

Alluring for its plush texture and impressive for its depth, this red delivers plum, currant, licorice, tar and mineral flavors that are rich and focused. The firm tannins are well-integrated, kept lively by fresh acidity. Smoke and floral notes mingle on the long finish. Drink now through 2031. 30,000 cases made. —TM 




Pewsey Vale Riesling Eden Valley Dry 2014:

Taut, sleek, polished and distinctively spicy, with black pepper, white pepper, floral and citrus flavors on a lively frame. Best from 2019 through 2030. 4,000 cases imported. —HS 




Felton Road Pinot Noir Central Otago Bannockburn 2013:

Supple wild berry, cherry and plum flavors are both powerful and delicate, with details of Earl Grey tea, white pepper, anise and crushed rock. Expansive and expressive, the finish sails on and on, with satiny tannins that never get in the way. Drink now through 2030. 5,174 cases made. —MW 




Clarendon Hills Grenache Clarendon Romas 2009:

This has terrific presence, with dark berry, cherry and floral flavors on a taut frame, expanding on the finish against nubby tannins that linger expressively and intensely. Best from 2017 through 2021. 500 cases imported. —HS 




Hecht & Bannier Cotes du Roussillon-Villages 2011:

A rich and extracted style, with luscious dark fruit, blackberry and tar flavors that are well-structured. Features hints of licorice snap midpalate, leading to a long finish of dark chocolate and cream. Grenache, Syrah, Mourvèdre and Carignan. Drink now through 2020. 700 cases imported. —KM 




Bouchard Père & Fils Beaune Teurons Domaine 2012:

Vibrant and juicy, this red offers black cherry flavors, with accents of licorice, spice and floral. Silky and rich, with fine balance and a lingering aftertaste of fruit and spice. Drink now through 2024. 200 cases imported. —BS
