A look at Summergate’s NEW brands to start off the New Year!

17th Feb. 2015  /  Summergate News  ·  Cheval Noir, Broadbent, Maddero, Alto del Carmen

The holiday season has been busy at Summergate, with 4 outstanding new brands joining our portfolio, just before the New Year! It’s a star-studded list, with one of the most historic Bordeaux wineries, an iconic name from Portugal, a premium Chilean pisco, and the first Rum to hit Summergate’s growing SPIRITS OF INDEPENDENCE portfolio!

Check out a brief introduction to the brands below, and contact us at info@summergate.com for more details!

CHEVAL NOIR ~ Bordeaux passion & history in a bottle!

Cheval Noir, meaning ‘Black Horse’, or ‘黑马’, made it onto Summergate’s portfolio just in time for the end of the Year of the Horse! How much luckier can you get? Cheval Noir was created in 1895, making it one of the OLDEST wineries from Bordeaux!

The winery is today advised by one of the best of Bordeaux, Hubert de Boüard (owner and winemaker of the Premier Grand Cru winery Chateau Angelus), combining an outstanding level of technical expertise with matchless traditional know-how.

BROADBENT ~ What happens when you mix an auctioneer, writer & wine critic in one? Some seriously good wine!

Broadbent is the first Portuguese wine to land on Summergate’s portfolio. Sound familiar? The name ‘Broadbent’ has been synonymous with fine wine for more than SIX DECADES, beginning with the renowned career of British wine critic, writer and auctioneer Michael Broadbent and continuing with his son, Bartholomew Broadbent.

Broadbent’s Vinho Verde comes from Portugal’s largest wine-making region, and is just as fresh and spritzy as it tastes in Portugal! Don’t believe us? Decanter's consulting editor Steven Spurrier just recommended it in Decanter’s March's issue!
Broadbent also brings Madeira to Summergate’s portfolio, a fortified wine coming from the Portuguese island Madeira (its namesake), that is rich in both history and flavor. Referred to by Michael Broadbent as his “desert island wine,” Madeira can be dry or sweet, making it delicious paired with a meal, dessert, or enjoyed all on its own.

Alto del Carmen, a leading producer of Chilean pisco, is now a part of Summergate’s SPIRITS OF INDEPENDENCE portfolio! Pisco is actually a type of Brandy, made from distilling the Muscat grape, and is most well-known for its popular cocktails such as the classic pisco sour and the pisco punch.

Pisco Sours are being shaken up around the country, so find your favorite spot today!

Maddero adds a selection of white, gold and aged rums to Summergate’s SPIRITS OF INDEPENDENCE portfolio. The rum category has been the most dynamic of the imported spirits categories by volumes in the Chinese market over recent years. The market saw a growth of a 110% year on year of bottles of rum imported into China between 2010 and 2013 (Source: CTI China Customs Bureau official statistics 2014).

Rum is also the key ingredient in the signature “mojito”! Thirsty yet?
