You heard it right - alongside other wonders of the world such as Macchu Picchu in Peru and the Great Wall of China in Beijing, the vineyards of Champagne and Burgundy were just granted World Heritage Status by UNESCO.  This includes the vineyards, wines cellars and sales houses of the wine-making regions.

UNESCO described the Champagne industry as "a very specialised artisan activity that has become an agro-industrial enterprise."

This status will ensure that these sites receive special protection in the years to come - so make sure to add Champagne and Burgundy to your list of must see 'wonders of the world'!
